The West Coast Loop

This adventure take you on a bus tour, from Inverness, to the Scottish Highlands. We take you through the heathlands of Achnasheen, where deer roam. We pass the famous Loch Maree, the unforgettable Torridon and Dundonell mountain ranges and stunning coastal scenery.

Itinerary

Departing the City of Inverness this full day coach adventure will take you deep into the heart of the Scottish highlands winding through the heathlands, dramatic landscapes and coastlines, where you can enjoy the majestic mountain ranges, the stunning scenery, wildlife, including raptors and deer. Absorb the impressive landscape and stunning scenery of the west coast of Ross-shire, some of the most impressive hidden scenery and locations you will witness with memories that will remain with you.

Leaving Inverness, we will cross over the Kessock Bridge, which opened in 1982, replacing the vehicular ferry that ran between South Kessock in Inverness and North Kessock onto the Black Isle.

We pass through the quaint villages of Contin and Achnasheen viewing the rugged heathland. Arriving at the Glen Docherty viewpoint with breath taking views over Loch Maree and the village of Kinlochewe. We will stop for a photo opportunity and to enjoy this moment.

The route then passes adjacent to Loch Maree, with over 60 islands, under the gaze of the Torridon mountains and the dominating Munro mountain known as Slioch, until we reach the impressive Victoria Falls, named after Queen Victoria, who visited there in 1877.

Continuing our tour, we will make our way along the winding single track road to the seaside village of Gairloch. We will stop at the Gairloch Museum, located in a converted nuclear bunker with galleries showcasing the history, culture and natural heritage of this beautiful area of the northwest highlands. Displays include the original lens from Rubh Re lighthouse, a replica croft house showing how people used to live.

Following the coastline, we reach Gruinard Bay offering another stunning viewpoint with a further photo opportunity.

We will then travel along the coast by Little Loch Broom adjacent to the Dundonell mountain range enjoying the rugged mountain views and Little Loch Broom.

The tour will then start to make its way back towards the fishing village of Ullapool, the gateway to the northern isles of the Outer Hebrides. Here you’ll have free time to enjoy the ambiance of the area, local retail outlets, eateries, or indulge in a light refreshment and local hospitality.

We will then make our way back to Inverness passing the reservoir known as Loch Glascarnoch, where evidence of the old road can often be seen, now absorbed into the Loch. We will have a comfort stop at Silver Bridge, Garve, with a photo opportunity, to view the cascading waters over the mini falls.

This is a day that avoids the large crowds, hustle and bustle that other areas experience. One of our favourite tours, that we are delighted to share with you. As we always say, if “people have had a good day, then we’ve had a good day”.
