Hi, I'm Donald
…as we say in Scots Gaelic. Your friendly bantering tour guide, driver, storyteller, and proud Highlander. I run MacNeil Coaches, a family business providing value-packed coach travel experiences throughout the Scottish Highlands & Islands for over 35 years.
Our story began in 1990 when my late father followed a lifelong dream to have his own coach and so established the business with my mother, on the idyllic Hebridean Island of Barra.
In 1991 my father was instrumental in setting up the first Public Bus Service on the Island. School transport services, private hire work and tours, some of which were for well-known established companies, were a key part of their success. At this time we were also the most Westerly located Coach Operator in Scotland.
In 2016 my parents decided it was sadly time to retire. Having delivered a fulfilling 35-year career in public service myself, I chose to continue my family’s legacy and took over the running of the company.
In 2020 I relocated the business to Dingwall, Ross-shire, to be close to my children and grandchildren. This is an area where I spent a significant part of my public service career, so continuing to support the communities we serve remains one of our core ethics.
We’ve always said, “People are our most important asset”. Without customers, we are little more than a name. Without our dedicated team, we cannot exceed and deliver our customer’s expectations, needs, and high standards of service. We will always go the extra mile to deliver for you.
