Special offer

Departing from Invergordon, following the arrival of your cruise ship, this tour will take you on a journey to the south of Inverness, providing an opportunity to visit a variety of historical sites through different periods in history and the opportunity to visit the Highland Capital, the City of Inverness.

Travelling out of Inverness we will soon arrive at the historic Culloden Battlefield, a significant period in Scottish history, where the Jacobite Revolution came to a dramatic end. Many of those that died in this horrific battle did so at the hands of other Clans who fought with the Government soldiers. You will get an opportunity to visit the battlefield and experience its poignancy. There will also be an opportunity to visit the Culloden Exhibition Centre which features artefacts from both sides of the battle and interactive displays that reveal the background to the conflict.

We will then continue our journey a short distance to the Clava Cairns. The Clava Cairn is a type of Bronze Age circular chamber tomb cairn that was built about 4,000 years ago. It also features in the Outlander series.

Thereafter we will travel to Cawdor Castle set amid gardens in the parish of Cawdor in Nairnshire. The castle dates from the late 14th century, built as a private fortress by the Thanes of Cawdor and is steeped in intrigue and history. William Shakespeare is also linked to the Castle through his famous play, MacBeth.

Thereafter we will return to Inverness where you will get some time to explore the sights and enjoy some retail therapy, the local hospitality or some of the fine food and drinks available.

The tour will then start to make its way back towards the port of Invergordon where we complete our day.
