Departing the City of Inverness at a specified time and location this tour will take you deep into the
heart of some of the highlands of Scotland where you can enjoy the majestic mountain ranges, the stunning scenery, and the wildlife, including raptors and deer.
Leaving Inverness, we will cross over the Kessock Bridge, which opened in 1982, replacing the vehicular ferry that ran between South Kessock in Inverness and North Kessock in the Black Isle. Despite its name it is not an island, but a peninsula bordered by the Moray, Cromarty & Beauly Firths.
We will pass through the villages of Garve and Achnasheen (where we will stop briefly). Continuing our journey will arrive at the Glen Docherty stopping at the viewpoint with breath taking views over Loch Maree and the village of Kinlochewe. Thereafter we will continue into the village of Kinlochewe and travel on the rural single track roads guarded by the might Torridon mountain range. Following the coastal route, we will pass Shieldaig and then follow the road through the glen of Strathcarron.
Continuing our tour, we will then take on the knuckle ride of Bealach na Bà which is a winding single-track road through the mountains of the Applecross peninsula. The historic mountain pass was built in 1822 and is engineered similarly to roads through the great mountain passes in the Alps, with very tight hairpin bends that switch back and forth up the hillside and gradients that approach 20%. It has the steepest ascent of any road climb in the UK, rising from sea level at Applecross to 626 metres, and is the third highest road in Scotland. The reward will be the stunning views looking back down the pass and over to the Isle of Rassay and the Cullins (mountains) on the Isle of Skye. We will the descend to the village of Applecross before our return journey back over and down Bealach na Bà.
We will then pass through the village of Lochcarron and make our way towards Achnasheen where we will retrace our steps on the return journey.
On passing the village of Garve we will stop at the Rogie Falls Rogie Falls, Contin, where you can walk over a footbridge viewing water cascading over the rocks as you admire the stunning location and its tranquillity.
The tour will then start to make its way back towards Inverness where we complete our day.
